I am also experienced in assessment, diagnosis and management of cognitive disorders and matters relevant to these conditions including capacity assessment. In addition, I have experience in diagnosis and treatment of Adult ADHD.

In addition, I have epicene in diagnosis and treatment of Adult ADHD. Last but equally important I have had training and experience in preparation of medico-legal reports. 

My medical career started in 1988 when I was awarded a scholarship to study medicine at the age of 17, after ranking 70th in the Nationwide Entrance Exam of Universities in Iran (out of approx. 270,000 candidates). After obtaining the Medical Doctoral (MD), I initially worked as a General Practitioner in Iran. I then joined Doctors without Borders (Médecins sans Frontières) and completed two humanitarian missions in Georgia and Kenya. Personal Statement

I have been described by my patients and colleagues to be approachable. My background in general practice, psychiatry and psychotherapy enable me to have a holistic approach (also known as biopsychosocial) in assessment and management of my patients. I also benefit from experience of clinical practice in 3 continents and working with patients from wide range of cultural and ethnic backgrounds. My interest in teaching is an excellent incentive to keep my knowledge up to date and in line with the best available evidence; I have access to learning resources from two of best universities in the UK.

I have been working as a Consultant Psychiatrist since 2011. I have experience in overseeing services as in-patient ward (current post), community mental health team, memory service. In addition to psychiatry, I trained and practiced in Cognitive Analytic Therapy between 2008 and 2017. I have special interest in medical education. I am Honorary Senior Lecturer at Imperial College; and I also offer honorary teachings at the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (King’s College). I have been involved in different research and quality improvement projects, including production of care pathway for memory service and quality accreditation for inpatient wards by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Our Focus

Depression is the most prevalent mental illness. According to the World Health Organisation, there are more than 264 million people of all ages who suffer from depression in 2020.

Bipolar affective disorder (also known as manic-depressive disorder) is a severe mental illness, characterised by episodes of extreme change in the mood (depressive, manic, mixed) and associated symptoms.

Dementia is an umbrella terms which refer to a group of diseases and conditions which affect the brain. These conditions present with persistent and progressive decline in different cognitive functions.

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in adults is a psychiatric condition which affects 3-5% of adults (more common than Schizophrenia or Bipolar Disorder). Dr Basit treats patients with ADHD.

Dr Basit offers outpatient assessments and follow-ups. These reviews usually include but not always limited to initiation, titration and monitoring of appropriate psychiatric medications. Psychoeducation (i.e. explaining about mental health problems and their management) is another component of reviews

Dr Basit can refer patients for psychological therapies (CBT, CAT…), depending on their clinical needs.

Dr Basit has admission privilege with Nightingale Hospital. If it is clinically indicated, Dr Basit can arrange for Inpatient Admissions as well as Day Therapy Treatment.
